Why Do Tabbies Have an “M” on Their Forehead?
Why do tabby chats have the characteristic “M” on their forehead?
Genes and DNA determine the tabby pattern that is written on their DNA. The M marking is a part of the tabby pattern.
Depending on the tabby’s other genes, the M could be either dark and well defined or a more subtle pattern which blends into the cat’s face.
